Reading Group: Anarchism & Ressentiment

Saturday, January 30th @ 6pm

We will engage with Saul Newman’s text, Anarchism and Ressentiment which can be found here http://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/saul-newman-anarchism-and-the-politics-of-ressentiment

“Nietzsche believes that this attempt to exclude and deny power is a form of ressentiment. So how does anarchism overcome this ressentiment that has shown to be so self destructive and life-denying? By positively affirming power, rather than denying it — to ‘say yes’ to power, as Nietzsche would put it. It is only by affirming power, by acknowledging that we come from the same world as power, not from a ‘natural’ world removed from it, and that we can never be entirely free from relations of power, that one can engage in politically-relevant strategies of resistance against power. This does not mean, of course, that anarchism should lay down its arms and embrace the State and political authority. On the contrary, anarchism can more effectively counter political domination by engaging with, rather than denying, power. “

Be a part of our radio show!

Hey all, we are currently planning on launching a radio show on Vancouver Co-op Radio (100.5 FM). Our hope is to present an anarchist analysis of news and current events in an open and accessible manner. Instead of focusing on ideology, we want the content to speak for itself.

We are currently working on the first episode which is to be broadcast sometime in early February. It will cover a history of political squats in Vancouver, from the hotel occupations by WWII veterans in the 1940’s, the Frances St. squats in the 1990’s, and the Woodward’s squat in the early 2000’s.

We would love to feature the perspectives of people who were involved first-hand in these actions. If you or anyone you know has engaged in political squatting in the city, please contact us at 38bloodalley@riseup.net.

Thanks!

In Solidarity With Kurdish Fighters: Report Back from Rojava

Friday, January 15th at 7pm

38 Blood Alley Square, Vancouver, British Columbia V6B 0C4

After the fall of the Syrian Government and in the midst of the current crisis unfolding there, the Kurdish “peoples protection units” of the YPG and YPJ have emerged as the most powerful ground force in the fight against ISIS. Not merely another fighting force to be used as pawns by the west, they have been setting up regions free from domination by capitalism and state authority; attempting to put to rest feuds and bad blood between different religious and ethnic groups, challenging patriarchal domination over women, relating communally to the land, and attempting to find better ways to relate to the eco-systems of the earth.

An anarchist author from California will share their experiences and observations from a recent trip to the region known as Rojava, and what kind of inspiration this can bring to anarchists and all others who desire a free life.

Call-out to shut down Death in June show

https://www.facebook.com/events/573865029436111/

This a general call-out to shut down Death in June, an English neo-Nazi band, by creating an anti-fascist presence at the event or putting enough pressure on the venue so they bow out.

Let’s let them know that we do not want a fascist band in Vancouver and we will not support a venue that collaborates with neo-Nazis.

Mo Tarmohamed, the general manager:

The Rickshaw Info Line:

General Inquiries:
info@rickshawtheatre.com

Douglas Pearce, has espoused racist, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant hatred in a number of interviews. He has called for a new “Final Solution,” referring to the Nazi campaign to exterminate Jewish people throughout Eruope. The band also utilizes fascist imagery on their album covers and merchandise, including the Totenkopf, which was the symbol of the Nazi SS during WWII.

Death in June’s message is toxic and must be stopped.

SHUT IT DOWN

Quotes from Douglas Pearce:

“To paraphrase PERE UBU, ‘I don’t need a cure, I need a Final Solution!'”

“The Totenkopf is used all over Europe as a sign of total commitment, so I’ve never really had any problems with it.”

“Depending upon their ‘ version ‘ of Eurocentric Racialism, then 9 times out of 10 I feel very comfortable with it.”

“THE WORLD SEEMS TO BE SO FULL OF SO MANY DANGERS THAT IT’S HARD TO SINGLE ANY PARTICULAR ONES OUT. CERTAINLY THE MOST OBVIOUS THAT SPRING TO MIND ARE THE GROWTHS IN ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM AND OUT OF CONTROL BREEDING. EVEN IN EUROPA, WITH ZERO POPULATION GROWTH IN MANY COUNTRIES, THOSE WHO ARE DOING THE BREEDING APPEAR TO ME, AND I THINK MANY OTHERS, TO BE OF DUBIOUS CHARACTER. THEY FUCK, THEY HAVE KIDS AND THAT IS ALL THEY DO!”
